This will be my first winter driving the car. Is there any wipers outside of oem you recommend for winters? Do you apply rain x? I’ve never used it before so if you can share your opinions that’ll be helpful.

I am a big fan of Bosch wiper blades. They are the longest lasting with best performance that I have found for my vehicles.

The best ones are the ones that keep your windshield clean ;) . OEM, Bosch, Traco.. the point is new soft rubber is better than brittle dried out rubber. Rainx helps keep rain/snow from building up on the windshield. I've used it from time to time but not enough to notice "hey, i need rainx".

I have an issue where it will clean the windshield on the swipe up but when it comes back down it smears. Has anyone had a problem with this? I live in CA so I dont use them much. I replaced the blades that came with my vehicle with OEM blades from Honda. I still get the same issue

I am a fan of PIAA Super Silicone wipers. They cost a bit more but last much longer than others I've used like the Bosch Icons. You have to follow the directions and prepare your windshield properly for them - cleaning and per-treating routine. I hate Rain-X. I found that about three weeks I after application, it was like someone had strapped pieces of raw bacon to my windshield wipers. The smearing and glare were terrible at night.

My car seems to eat through wipers because of this issue. Like there's uneven pressure applied through the wiper arm, especially on the driver's side.

Mine as well. It's unfortunate considering the passenger side is perfectly clear to see through lol.

Yes, it is only on the driver side that has the issue and only when the arm goes back down. So frustrating.

Mine skips on the way down if the wipers run dry. I'm starting to think there might be a thin film of tree sap on the glass. In certain light yo can see splotches when the dew is just right. I think ammonia and water cuts tree sap so i need to try that and probably get new wipers right after that as my current ones are probably contaminated.

You can replace the blade inserts (about $12 total). They come graphite coated and work really well. But I am not sure their longevity :(

I use a Rain-X infused windshield washer solution and I’ve been thrilled with it across five cars for the last few years. Gets applied whenever you use the washers, works well enough that during rain I basically don’t need my wipers. Give it a shot. Has never clogged any of my wiper nozzles or anything like that.

Bosch Icon all the way. No doubt about them. The only thing that sucks is you really should replace blades every year and Bosch Icons are not cheap.

RainX is a MUST. It is not a panacea but when you properly apply it, there is nothing like it. It is not permanent but it will last a few months. Where the application instructions state that you should only do it in above freezing temperatures, you should either do it on the next "warm" Canadian fall day or go to an indoor car wash and do it there once the car has warmed up.

I hate Rain-X. I found that about three weeks I after application, it was like someone had strapped pieces of raw bacon to my windshield wipers. The smearing and glare were terrible at night.
If this is happening with RainX, you have done something rather wrong with the application process. I have NEVER had this happen in the 15 years I have been actively using it on all my cars. In the spring, I use a cutting compound to buff right down to the glass and then clean it twice. Then I start using RainX again. I can sometimes go 2 years between having to buff to get it down to the glass.

As for anything else, I use RainX washer fluid and when I do clean the glass, I use the Invisible glass foaming spray. Black can with yellow top and available in just a squirt bottle. Canadian Tire carries it.

I tried using my Hydrosilex on the windshield but was not at all impressed with the result. I either didn't clean it well enough or didn't apply it well enough. Regardless, that experiment failed.
